Rhyming Scavenger Hunt
In the rhyming scavenger hunt, teams are given a list of words and must find items that rhyme with them. These hunts can range from easy to quite challenging depending on the the words chosen. This type of hunt is easy to plan, and is great for themed scavenger hunts.
The trick with putting a rhyming scavenger hunt together is using a rhyming dictionary. My favorite is WikiRhymer.com. The easiest way is to enter an item you want people to look for, and find a word that is not an object. This way you can have a pretty good hunt in about 10 minutes.
To help simplify things for kids, or make it an educational scavenger hunt for students, specify a certain type of item that rhymes with a word. For example "find an insect that rhymes with atlantis", or "find a plant that rhymes with hawaiian."
You can also have a themed hunt where the rhyming words are themed. For instance, a new years hunt where players must find things that rhyme with any of the words, or parts of the phrase "Auld Lang Syne".
